“Israel Is at War with Hamas- This Is Their Version of 9/11”
On October 7th, the Hamas, who are the “Islamist political and militant organization currently governing the Gaza Strip of the Palestinian territories”, led a surprise terrorist attack on Israel (Wikipedia). They fired thousands of rockets at Israeli towns, and after breaking down the border fence, sent militants across the border to raid homes, take hostages, and kill soldiers and citizens (CNN). The death toll is now around 2,500, including some U.S. citizens, and many more are wounded or in hostage with their lives being threatened (Yahoo). The Hamas attack is absolutely heartbreaking and violent as they have beheaded babies, butchered parents in front of their children, violently raped women, and murdered entire innocent families in their homes. It is hard to fathom that humans are capable of such violence and evil, but many of these radical groups have been instilled with a hatred for Israel since their childhood. Israel responded to the attack by declaring war on Hamas, calling up 300,000 troops from their military reserve, and launching an ariel assault against Gaza (USA Today).
The size of this attack on Israel is equivalent to almost ten of America’s September 11th attacks, relative to their nation’s size. September 11th was a huge turning point for our nation where overwhelming fear, grief, and outrage helped to unite us as one nation, and made us reconsider what is really important in our lives. Israel is going to need to unite together to stand up against Hamas, and they are going to need support from other countries. This is a crucial time because if any wrong moves are made, we could soon be in a third world war which would be devastating. Pray for Israel, God’s chosen people, as they fight this war on terror. As the end times approach, the world is going to only get more violent, corrupt, and full of war. This is a reminder to not take our lives for granted, and we need to focus on what truly matters in life and share that good news with others.
